The Aero Club operates various types of aircraft:

KSR1_450

"Kilo Sierra Romeo"

Cessna 172 P  -  VH KSR

Owner : Aero Club of Southern Tasmania

KSR is a "P" Model Cessna 172 with a 160hp carburetted engine.

The P model was the last of the carburetted engine models of the 172's. These models are economic to operate and can actually have a higher load carrying capacity than the later models.

KSR Is our "mainstay" trainer for GA.

This aircraft cruises at around 100 knots which is the same as 185 kms/hr.

kot1_450

"Kilo Oscar Tango"

Cessna 172 R   -  VH KOT

Owner : Aero Club of Southern Tasmania

KOT is an "R" model Cessna 172 originally with a 160hp fuel injected Lycoming engine. Recently, the club upgraded the engine to 180hp when the previous engine became due for replacement. This has increased the load carrying capacity of the aircraft.

This is also an ab initio trainer, but most pilots will train in the "P" model initially and then move up to the "R" model for cross country training.

This aircraft cruises at up to 120 knots which is the same as  222 kms/hr.

Whilst KOT goes faster than KSR, it has a more limited weight carrying capacity.

pix1_450

"Papa India Xray"

Cessna 172 P  -  VH PIX

Owner : Australian Address Lists Pty Ltd

This aircraft is cross hired to the Aero Club.

PIX is a "P" Model Cessna 172 with a 180hp carburetted engine.

This aircraft has been upgraded by changing the 160hp engine for a 180hp Lycoming engine.. This allows an extra 250 lbs (113 kgs) of weight carrying capacity and gives the aircraft a longer flight range and a higher cruising speed of between 105 and 115 knots (194 to 212 Kms/hr) depending on the load being carried

PIX may be used for ab initio training, but is more often used for cross country flights by licenced pilots because of its greater weight carrying capacity and range.

jxm_450

Cessna 182 S  -  VH JXM

This aircraft is cross hired to the Aero Club for commercial and instrument flight training.

JXM has a 230 hp fuel injected engine with a 3 bladed constant speed propeller. It is fully equipped for instrument flying.
