The aim of the A.C.S.T
and it's instructors is to provide an enjoyable, rewarding and stimulating
environment for your flying training.
The Aero Club was established
in 1947 and since that time has graduated many pilots to the highest standard
from private licence, to national and international airline qualification.
The Aero Club provides the
aircraft for training and private hire and is responsible for all social
activities including fly-ins to country airstrips, fun flying competitions and
social evenings.
GENERAL
AVIATION TRAINING
There
are several different levels of pilot licenses ranging from the General
Flight Progress Test (GFPT) and Private Pilots License (PPL) through
to the Commercial Pilots Licence (CPL).
There
is no minimum age to commence flight training for General Aviation, however solo
flight cannot commence until 16 years of age.
First Lesson
to Solo
This
section includes basics of aircraft handling, introduction to aerodynamics,
effects of controls, radio communications and circuit training. After around 8
to 13 hours of dual flight training the instructor will send the student solo in
the circuit area. After having completed a Basic Aeronautical Knowledge test the
Student will then complete the second section.
Solo to GFPT
This
section includes specific solo flight training as well as more intensive
training in cross wind landings, simulated engine failures, stalls, advanced
turning, etc.
After
approx. 20 to 25 hours of training you will then undertake a flight test with
the Chief Flying Instructor. Upon successful completion of the flight test you
will be granted "passenger carrying" approval.
GFPT to PPL
This
section includes a minimum of twenty hours and involves navigation and
cross-country flying which includes a series of navigation exercises throughout
Tasmania and, if desired, the mainland. Included in these exercises will be at
least two solo navs. On completion of the PPL theory exam and subsequent flight
test you will achieve a full Private Pilots Licence.
