Learning To Fly

Top  Previous  Next

Learning to fly is a challenge, but one that is achievable by a majority of people.

Younger people may wish to learn with the aim of making a career in aviation. The Aero Club was established in 1947 and since that time many pilots who have trained with the Aero Club have gone on to very successful careers in the airlines and armed forces.

If you are older, perhaps you would like to learn to fly as a personal challenge and for recreational purposes.

You can get a student licence as young as 16 and there is no specific limit for older people provided you can meet the health requirements. We have a number of members well into their seventies still flying.

The aim of the ACST and its instructors is to provide you with an enjoyable, rewarding and stimulating environment for your flying training.

Here are some of the advantages of learning to fly with the Aero Club of Southern Tasmania:

The Club provides a cost effective and friendly environment for your flying training.
You will join a club which is more than just a commercial organisation providing a flying training service. It is an association in which you can take part in various flying and social activities such as barbecues, social evenings,  fly-aways, competitions, Sunday afternoon club bar and other events that are organised from time to time.
You will meet like minded people in your flying training and meet members who have the benefit of many years of flying experience who are happy to share their experiences with you.

A large proportion of the club administration is done by volunteer members. This helps to keep charges to members and students to lower rates than you will usually obtain from a privately owned commercial flying training organisation.

Our instructors have extensive experience and will provide friendly personalised service.
Once you have your licence, as a paid up club member you can hire one of the club operated aircraft at rates which are below those of commercial competitors.
